About Me

I have had an avid interest in photography since my mother placed a Canon A-1 into my hands during college years ago. My first digital camera was an Apple QuickTake 150 purchased in the early 1990s directly from Apple with the assistance (and discount!) of then Apple Evangelist, Guy Kawasaki. I didn't consider digital SLRs within my reach until 2006, and since then I've been unleashed and the battle wages daily between me and my Aperture library attempting to attain exponential growth.

My background is quite diversified. It doesn't necessarily mean that I can't stick with anything as much as it says I have so many different interests to pursue.

My education began right here in the local area as I attended high school at Chowan Academy in Edenton. After high school I obtained my B.S. in Biology from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, N.C. Subsequently, I completed 2 years of education in electronics engineering, as well as several years of advanced mathematical and statistics education at North Carolina State University.

I am a registered Medical Technologist and have 13 years experience in hospital laboratories working in clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, blood banking, and immunology.I spent 22 years of my working career as a Research Scientist specializing in the environmental fate of pesticides for large agricultural companies, beginning with Union Carbide in 1985, which became Rhone-Poulenc Ag Company, which became Aventis CropScience and finally Bayer CropScience for a period of greater than twenty years. Following a layoff in early 2007, I completed all of the educational requirements; R1, R2, R3, USPAP, G2, G3, and am now a Certified Real Estate Appraiser in the State of North CarolinaI currently working with my father as a real estate appraiser in northeastern North Carolina. You wouldn't automatically consider that a fit with my background, but it actually is as the aspect of it that I enjoy most is market data analysis and presentation.

At the current time, thanks to the loving support of the most wonderful wife in the world, my pursuits involve developing Beamcatchers® and establishing myself as a skilled and respected photographer and photojournalist. My experience base is broad and I like to believe I am able to excel in any area that I commit myself. Photography is my passion, and commitment to your satisfaction with our products is my highest priority.

Event Photography

Event photography is a speciality here at Beamcatchers, and horse shows are our favorite event. I've shot various shows across northeastern North Carolina including shows in Elizabeth City, Hertford, Scotland Neck and Halifax, N.C. Fee free to browse though thousands of images caught at Beamcatcher's Zenfolio Gallery.

We do not generally charge to photograph these events; however, we are likely to quote a base charge to cover travel time and related expenses if an event is outside of our normal coverage area. Images from a show are uploaded directly to the Zenfolio gallery where a variety of print and speciality products are available for your images. Additional treatments are billed as extra.

Additionally, you can order specialty products such as gallery wraps and custom-designed soft and hard cover albums directly from your photographer. Upon request I will provide discounted quotes for packages for a number of participants through your event coordinator generally representing a savings of at least 20% over individual orders.
